Golf courses in Alaska

Four mapped Alaska courses, three of them on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and one in Anchorage, with the numbers behind the smallest state catalog.

Cities with two or more mapped courses have their own page; every course has its own page too.

Fort Richardson 2

Golf in Alaska is a summer sport with very long days. Visit Anchorage puts the season at May through September and says summer tee times can start around 5 a.m. and run until close to midnight, which is what the midnight sun does to a tee sheet.

Yardage has 4 Alaska courses mapped, the smallest state total in our catalog: 3 eighteen-hole courses and 1 nine-holer. Three of the four sit on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Moose Run’s Creek and Hill courses are listed under Fort Richardson, and JBER Life calls the pair the only 36-hole facility in the state and says they are open to civilian guests as well as military families. Eagleglen, on the Elmendorf side, is still in the catalog, though the base closed it in 2014. The fourth is Russian Jack Springs in Anchorage, the one nine-hole entry.

That comes to 0.54 courses per 100,000 residents, 50th of 50 in the Golf Course Census, or one mapped course for every 184,318 Alaskans, and 0.03% of the national catalog. Those numbers say more about our map than about the state. The catalog does not yet reach Fairbanks, the Mat-Su Valley, the Kenai Peninsula or Juneau, and the request form at the bottom of this page is how a course there gets on the list.

For anyone stationed at JBER for a summer, or in Anchorage on a long layover with clubs in the car, our guide to a first round on an unfamiliar course covers what to check before the opening tee shot, and the directory for all 50 states shows what is mapped everywhere else.
