Yardage is built to answer one question with as little friction as possible: what’s the yardage?
Starting a round
- Choose your course and tap Start Round.
- Yardage starts on the first playable hole by default.
- If you’re starting somewhere else, tap Starting on another hole? and choose the hole.
- If you’ve recently played the course, Play Again starts the course directly on its first playable hole.
Automatic Hole Changes
Automatic Hole Changes is on by default. Yardage moves to the next hole automatically when it has enough evidence that you’ve finished the current hole and moved on.
- You can always tap Next or Previous manually.
- After an automatic move, use Undo if you want to return to the previous hole.
- Manual controls always take priority over automation.
- You can turn Automatic Hole Changes off in Yardage Settings under During Rounds.
Location permission
- Yardage needs location access during an active round to calculate distance to the center of the green.
- Choose Allow While Using App when prompted.
- If access was denied: iPhone Settings → Yardage → Location → While Using the App.
- Precise Location should be on. If GPS quality is weak or reduced, Yardage shows that honestly instead of presenting a fake-precise distance.
Lock Screen and Dynamic Island
During a round, Yardage can keep the current hole and center-green yardage visible on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island so you don’t need to reopen the app.
- To hide or show Lock Screen Yardage during a round, use the round’s ••• options menu.
- To change the default for future rounds, open Yardage Settings → During Rounds → Lock Screen Yardage.
- Ending the round ends the active location session and Live Activity.
Yardage looks stale or wrong
- Weak GPS can happen under trees, near buildings, or with a poor sky view.
- Yardage intentionally de-emphasizes or hides a distance when the location fix is not trustworthy.
- Previous and Next continue to work even when GPS is weak.
Course data
Search the course catalog in the app or use Find My Course. If a course is not listed, use Request a Course so it can be prioritized for future coverage.
If a green on a listed course appears incorrect, use the round options to submit a Report Green Location. The report does not upload your coordinates.
Purchases
- Your first eligible round is free.
- After that, Yardage offers single-round access and subscription options through Apple.
- To restore an existing purchase or subscription, use Restore Purchases in Yardage.
- Apple manages subscriptions in iPhone Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
