Cities with two or more mapped courses have their own page; every course has its own page too.

Two of the five Arkansas cities with the most courses mapped in Yardage are planned communities. Hot Springs Village, 26,000 gated acres in the Ouachita Mountains, counts nine courses and 171 holes of its own, and 6 of them are mapped; Bella Vista, up in the Ozarks in the state’s northwest corner, also shows 6.

In all, 134 Arkansas courses are mapped, 94 eighteen-hole and 40 nine-hole. Fort Smith leads the cities with 10 mapped entries, helped by the three nines at Ben Geren Regional Park and the eighteens they combine into; Little Rock has 9 and Fayetteville 5. The state park system is on the map too: the 18-hole course at DeGray Lake Resort State Park, on the lake southwest of Hot Springs, is mapped.

Nine-holers are 29.9% of the Arkansas catalog, which ranks 15th nationally, and 43 of the state’s 70 postal cities have a single mapped course. Per head, Arkansas has 4.3 courses per 100,000 people, 30th in our census of mapped courses and about level with the national figure, one for every 23,245 residents; the state holds 0.89% of the catalog.

The season is long. Courses stay open through the winter, with frost delays in January rather than closures, and July and August are the months when the early tee times go first. If a trip to Hot Springs or the Buffalo River puts you on an unfamiliar course, our guide to reading a new course before the first tee is the pre-round read, and the national directory has the other 49 states.
