Forty is a small catalog, and Delaware’s is one of the smallest in Yardage: 40 courses mapped, 34 eighteen-hole and 6 nine-hole, spread over just 19 postal cities. Wilmington accounts for 11 of them, Ed Oliver, Delcastle and Rock Manor among them, up at the state’s northern tip where the Piedmont’s rolling hills begin.

Ocean View’s 6 mapped entries are the nines and combinations at Bear Trap Dunes, and they stand for the other Delaware: the flat coastal plain of Sussex County, where the beach towns from Rehoboth to Bethany fill with summer golfers who came for the sand and stayed for a round. Middletown, Newark and Rehoboth Beach have 3 mapped courses each.
