Golf courses in Hawaii

Hawaii's 76 mapped courses by town, from Honolulu's six municipal courses to the Kohala Coast, Maui and Kauai resorts, with the numbers behind them.

Hawaii golf courses by city

Cities with two or more mapped courses have their own page; every course has its own page too.

Ewa Beach 8 Maui 5 Kailua Kona 4 Waikoloa 4 Honolulu 3 Honolulu Oahu 3 Lanai City Lanai 3 Princeville 3 Ewa Beach Oahu 2 Hilo Hawaii 2 Kahuku Oahu 2 Kailua Oahu 2 Kaneohe Oahu 2 Kapolei 2 Lahaina 2 Oahu 2 Wahiawa 2 Wailuku Maui 2 Waimea 2 Waipahu Oahu 2

The City and County of Honolulu runs six municipal golf courses, and all six are mapped in Yardage: Ala Wai beside Waikiki, Pali on the windward side, Ted Makalena in Waipahu, West Loch and Ewa Villages on the Ewa plain, and the seaside Kahuku nine on the North Shore. That Ewa plain is why Ewa Beach, not Honolulu, leads the state with 8 mapped courses; Honolulu itself shows 3.

Yardage has 76 Hawaii courses mapped, 66 eighteen-hole and 10 nine-hole, a 13.2% nine-hole share that ranks 48th, one of the lowest in the country. The resort coasts fill in the rest. On the island of Hawaii, the Kohala Coast courses at Mauna Kea, Hapuna, Mauna Lani and Waikoloa are mapped, and Kailua-Kona shows 4. Kapalua and Wailea are listed under the postal city Maui, which is how that island shows 5, and Poipu Bay and the Princeville courses cover Kauai. The Navy Marine course on Oahu and Hilo Municipal on the Big Island are mapped too.

Golf here is year-round; the trade winds and which side of the island you are on matter more than the month. Per head, Hawaii has 5.3 courses per 100,000 residents, 18th in the Golf Course Census and above the national figure, one course for every 18,853 people, and 0.51% of the catalog across 39 postal cities. The state tourism authority counts more than 70 courses across six islands.

Most rounds in Hawaii are played by visitors on a course they have never seen. Our guide to playing a course for the first time is the pre-flight read, and the 50-state directory covers the mainland.

Missing a course?

Send us the course and the island and we will look at mapping it; all six main islands already have mapped courses, so nothing is out of range.
